In an effort to keep the 4Runner ahead of my friend's 2000 Dakota RT I installed the Kenne Bell Boost A Pump and a home-made mini ram air system. Details of the mini ram air installation and actual 1/4 mile performance achievements are posted below.
I reviewed Ron's ram air install and decided to give it a try with some easily obtained pieces and parts from Tractor Supply Company ! The air intake consists of a rubber 2" to 1 1/2" pipe coupler ($3.99) that I mounted to the radiator support frame. The "scoop" is directed to pick up air that is forced into the lower grill between the license plate holder mounting posts. I used 1 1/4" plastic drain hose ($5.99) to connect the "scoop" to a series of PVC fittings (Less than $8.00) that attach to the air box. The system is kind of a prototype but has been in use for over one month now with no trouble. See the photos below for better "visual"...

Summary
As you can see, it took me a while to figure out the BAP was set too high ! For most of the day I thought the thing was not working at all. A setting of 15 provided best results for my truck. Regarding the RAM air system, it did make marked improvement but I only ran one pass with it disabled. I may return to the track in the fall to do more testing on both the BAP & RAM.
