STi Sound Recordings

(Follow the links at bottom of this page)

The sound recordings on my WebPages are made using the following:

Pre-listening requirements... NOTE, These recordings are picking up frequencies from 20Hz to 20,000 Hz (flat from 45 to 20K). In order to benefit from the quality of these recordings it is mandatory that you listen to them using a high quality sound system or headphones. I have found that the SONY MDR-7506's work great.

Megan exhaust .wav (just over 2 meg)

(Left click to open .wav, Right click and save as to save it)

The mic was positioned to the side of and 4 feet away from the tip of the muffler. You will hear me starting the engine, idle and a blip of the throttle. Listen carefully and you will hear the high pitched sound of the turbo spooling up through the Typhoon when I blip it and after the engine returns to idle, you will hear the lower frequency sound of the turbo winding down through the muffler followed by the engine stuttering slightly as the back pressure increases when the turbo has spooled down completely.

Exit from garage and drive off.wav (almost 9 meg)

(Left click to open .wav, Right click and save as to save it)

The mic was positioned inside the vehicle with all windows rolled down. You will hear me put keys in ignition, start the vehicle, exit my garage and drive off.

WOT in second and a bit of third gear.wav (just over 6 meg)

(Left click to open .wav, Right click and save as to save it)

The mic was positioned inside the vehicle with all windows rolled down. You will hear me take off aggressively in first gear then stand on it in second through part of third gear. After that, you will hear a couple of "TurboQueef's" as I drive down my street and into my driveway.

Sound system for the hearing impaired.wav (almost 9 meg)

(Left click to open .wav, Right click and save as to save it)

The mic was positioned inside the vehicle with all windows closed. You will hear a partial clip of one of my favorite musicians, Mr. Joe Satriani. The sound is being reproduced through my DEH-P7800MP which is driving the stock STI front and rear speakers with frequencies from 125Hz to 20K. The bass is coming from an old clunker KICKER CONTENDER SS12. I have modified this box to only use the two 12" drivers and I feed 80Hz and below to them via a PILE A200 amplifier.
